The French-Azerbaijani University (UFAZ) is organizing the first joint conference under its two prestigious partner universities, the Azerbaijan State Oil and Industry University (ASOIU) and the University of Strasbourg (Unistra).

We are very pleased and honored to announce that Professor Jean-Marie Lehn, from the University of Strasbourg, Nobel Prize in Chemistry, will give the opening lecture online.

The conference program will consist of three parallel sessions over two half-days, covering the teaching and research areas of UFAZ, namely chemistry, including process engineering and analytical chemistry, earth sciences, and computer science.

The speakers will be junior and senior researchers from the three organizing institutions. The lectures will be delivered in a hybrid – online and face-to-face mode.

Bio
Dr. Dunya Babanly has received her Ph.D. degree in 2007 and Dr.Sci degree in 2019 from Baku State University. She joined to Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS) as a researcher in 2007. She has more than 12 years teaching experience. Dr. Babanly is an author of about 130 scientific publications of which 40 papers were included in the international electronic systems “Elsevier”, “Springer” and “Tomson Reuters” etc. She has taken part more than 20 international and 20 republican conferences. She was granted on “Design of new multicomponent functional materials based on metal chalco-halides”. She is the winner of the Science Competition announced by SOCAR in the field of technique and science. She was awarded with ANAS National Scholarship grand for Young Researchers Defending Doctorate of Sciences under 35 –”The youngest Azerbaijan female chemist; Doctor of Science”. Her current interests include: – Material Science of multicomponent multiphase inorganic systems. – Search for the new functional materials. Directional synthesis and crystal growth. – Study of fundamental thermodynamic properties of different phases by the EMF method. Currently she is a member of the Research Department of the French-Azerbaijani University (UFAZ) in parallel with being lecturer and local coordinator of Chemistry department. Dr. Babanly is a member of Dissertation Council and Chairwoman of the scientific seminar on Physical Chemistry discipline at Baku State University.

Novel advanced materials – topological insulators (TIs) for future spintronics and quantum computing
Abstract
Topological insulators (TIs) are of great interest as a novel class of materials possessing advanced functional properties. They represent a new phase of quantum matter with innovative electronic properties . A TI is an insulator in the bulk; however has a gapless surface state. Conductivity on the surface of TIs fundamentally differs from conventional electronic conductors and is directly related to the non-trivial topology of the bulk bands, consequence of the inversion symmetry between the first conduction band and the last valence band produced by the strong spin-orbit coupling effect. The spin nature of TI invigorate researches aligned at creating a fundamentally new field of electronics, namely, spintronics, whose working principle will be based on change of their spins rather than the movement of electrons. Materials studied as TI include binary tetradymite-like layered Bi and Sb chalcogenides and homologous series of ternary compounds in the systems AIVX − mBV2X3 (AIV= Ge, Sn, Pb; BV=Bi, Sb; X=Se, Te) and TlBVX2. For the study of Tls, it is essential to have high-quality single crystals and particularly, chemical foundation for their synthesis and single crystals growth. However, due to some experimental difficulties only several members of the above-mentioned homologous series were grown as bulk ingot and investigated. Presentation will be devoted to the physico-chemical aspects of the design, synthesis and single crystal elaboration of the mentioned phases.

Pierre COLLET, 55, is a distinguished Professor at Strasbourg University (France). President of the French Association for Artificial Evolution from 2003 to 2008 and head of the BFO research team from 2007 to 2011, Prof. Pierre Collet was the head of the Department of Computer Science of Strasbourg University from 2011 to 2015. He then created the new CSTB (Complex Systems and Translational Bioinformatics) research team of the ICUBE UNISTRA laboratory. He is now the director of the French National Network of Complex Systems, and the co-coordinator of the Complex Systems Digital Campus UNESCO UniTwin, a large network of more than 130 universities around the world that are working on Complex Systems. In 2015, he was the Organization Chair of CS-DC’15, the first world e-conference on Complex Systems. He specializes in Complex Systems, Artificial Intelligence, massively parallel artificial evolution, emergent e-education and epistemology. His latest research is on how to use quantum computers for optimization.

Abstract
The notion of autonomy is not yet clearly defined within the AI community. Based on sociology and philosophy, we propose that an intelligent system is autonomous if it jointly exhibits: a) automation, b) exploration, c) adaptation. In this talk, we will show how jointly implementing these three properties with a rule based system (ALLIANCE) will additionally provide the artificial system with desirable explainability and ethics for an XEA-AI (eXplainable, Ethical and Autonomous AI).

What is the Roadmap of Complex Systems Studies?
Abstract
The Complex Systems Digital Campus (CS-DC) is a UNESCO UniTwin, ‘twinning the university network’ in charge to develop the new science of Complex Systems. The talk will thus present what are complex systems and how the roadmap for their studies is working ‘one for all’ and ‘all for one’ from each university to the UniTwin and its global e-Campus. Complex systems science bridges the gap between the individual and the collective: from genes to organisms to ecosystems, from atoms to materials to products, from digital media to the Internet, from citizens to society. It cuts across all disciplines. It enables new and shorter paths between scientists and integrates the flow of scientific knowledge. It reduces the gap between pure and applied science, establishing new foundations for the design, control and management of systems with unprecedented levels of complexity, which exceed the capacity of current approaches. It will benefit the environment and industry, the health and education sector and all public and social actors. Understanding complex systems will be the basis of worldwide wealth and socio-economic wellbeing in the 21st century.

Cecile Robin is, currently, an Associate Professor (Senior) at Université de Rennes 1 (France) since 2003. She got her PhD in1995 at Université de Rennes 1 and started working as an Associate Professor at Sorbonne university (France) from 1996 to 2003 PhD Thesis. Dr. Robin got her HDR (Accreditation Thesis) 2006 at Université de Rennes 1. She received Fallot-Jeremine-Jacob Price of the French Academy of Science (2004), Robert M. Mitchum Award of the European Association of Geoscientists & Engineers (EAGE) (2013) and BOURCART 2018 Price of the French geological society. Her research topic is about relationships between deformation and sedimentation: – passive margin deltas with gravitary tectonics (Niger, Congo and Kwanza) – rifts (Albert – Uganda, Atlantic rift of the Congo) – foreland basin (Aquitaine basin) Quantification of vertical movements (accommodation) and eustasy Source to sink: budget erosion-sedimentation in Austral Africa and Madagascar She is also the Co-director of the laboratory of Geosciences at Rennes University, a member of the Scientific Board of the BRGM – French Geological Survey, the National Selection Committee for Secondary School Teachers, and different assessment committees of the CNRS (“Action Marges” – Margin – TOTAL/CNRS – since 2006, SYSTER – 2006, GDR Forpro – Nuclear Waste Storage – 2008-2012) She is the leader of of the project PAMELA (TOTAL: IFREMER – CNRS Rennes University).

SIGNAL PROPAGATION IN SOURCE TO SINK for the FUTUre of Earth Ressources and Energy
Abstract
Today Earth’s surface is the domain of complex interactions between humans and their physical, chemical and biological environments, including sediments. These sediments have been produced, transported and deposited since at least 4 billion years on the Earth’s surface. Sediments contain geological resources (water resources, energy, aggregates, metals..) or may be a storage for different human wastes (CO2, nuclear, chemical) that are of primary importance for the development of humankind. The objective of our european S2S-FUTURE ITN project is to better predict the location, structures (heterogeneities) of the sediments and their mineralogical/physical properties (grain-size distribution, porosity, permeability, etc.). This will be achieved by a full integration of the sedimentary system in space and time, from the upstream source of sediment to the downstream sink of sediments, known as the source to sink system, to meet societal needs at this time of the ecological transition.

Christian ROLANDO is a CNRS distinguished senior scientist who was granted the emeritus status on March 1st 2020 for a 5 year’s period. He is working at the University of Lille where he coordinates the MSAP mass spectrometry team. He has authored over 200 papers cited more than 5500 times, leading to an h-index of 40 (source Scopus) and has supervised over 50 PhD theses. He was Deputy director in charge of scientific infrastructures at the CNRS Institute for Chemistry. He was President of the French Society for Mass Spectrometry, of the Group “Polyphénols” and of the Division of Analytical Chemistry of the French Chemical Society. He is a member of the Steering Committee of the Division of Analytical Chemistry of EuCheMS (European Association for Chemical and Molecular Sciences) and has organized several congresses, the latest being EuroAnalysis 2015 in Bordeaux. In 2009, together with two NMR research groups, he started revisiting 2D FT-ICR, a very fruitful topic, which has been funded twice by the French National Research Agency (ANR) and for which Dr. ROLANDO has developed several algorithms in collaboration with mathematicians and computer scientists. He is the PI of Horizon Infra for Starting Communities EU_FT-ICR_MS (2018-2022) which includes 11 FT-ICR academic centers from nine European countries and 2 SMEs (https://www.eu-fticr-ms.eu/).

From mass spectrometry raw signal to results which make sense in proteomics, metabolomics and petroleomics. From deterministic algorithms to machine learning.
Abstract
Mass spectrometers afford the mass to charge ratio of a molecule, from which the identity of the latter may be deduced. However, it is not so as easy as shown in TV police series! Computer science is present in all steps from the raw signal to results which make sense in proteomics, metabolomics and petroleomics. The most precise instruments are Orbitrap and Fourier-transform ion cyclotron resonance mass spectrometers, which do not directly record a spectrum but rather a transient composed of a sum of damped sines. From this transient the spectrum is obtained by Fourier transform (FT). A very active computer science field is super-resolution, which means obtaining a better resolution than FT. It should be pointed out that a spectrum may contain 100,000 peaks with a precision reaching the 10th part per million level. When hyphenated with chromatography up to 100,000 spectra per hour are generated! In mass spectra several patterns have to be recognized, such as the isotopic pattern and the state of charge. In proteomics the data obtained from mass spectrometry must be combined with genomics data. The most complete proteomics data base comprises 200 million sequences. In all of these fields traditional deterministic algorithms are nowadays being replaced by machine learning. This talk will present examples of this transition and emphasize the necessity of low-complexity algorithms for exploiting this large amount of data.

Javid Abdurahim is a Ph.D. student in polymer micro-process engineering at Institut Charles Sadron (ICS), Strasbourg University under supervision of Christophe A. Serra and Madeline Vauthier. He is a chemical engineering graduate student of Baku State University in 2016. He received 1st degree diploma among students of 66th national conference, Petrochemical Synthesis Technologies Masters honor diploma of ASOIU in 2018. He has industrial production experience of more than 2 years at BP, SOCAR, and 1 year of research experience at physical-chemistry laboratory of ASOIU. He received BP Technofest 2015 Competition, OTI, Material QC, 2016 Engineering Academy, HT2018 Ammonia production certificates. Meanwhile, he had been leading International Relations Team at AIESEC in Azerbaijan in 2018. He received AAF Official License, and was a fire&rescue officer at F1 Baku Grand Prix. In 2019, he joined Precision Macromolecular Chemistry Group to develop an intensified process for the one-step production of anisotropic polymeric nanoparticles as a Ph.D. student. After starting his research he attended 2 International (CNano2020 in Toulouse, NanoTech France 2021 in Paris) and 1 disciplinary congress organised by Unistra in 2021. He took part in “Fête de la science 2021 France” as one of the representatives of ICS. He is the event manager at “Société Chimique de France”, and an active member of ”Le Bureau des Jeunes Chercheurs” and “Association of International Researchers of Strasbourg”.

Development of an intensified process for the one step production of anisotropic polymeric nanoparticles
Abstract
The need for a new drug delivery system is requested by the pharmaceutical industries and biodegradable polymeric nanoparticles are considered as promising drug delivery systems due to their high potential in tuning the release and alleviate side effects. However, particle great than 200 nm can be detected by the immune system. Thus, we focuse on the elaboration of size-controlled nanoparticles of poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid) smaller than 200 nm emasculating a model drug. For this purpose, the biodegradable polymer containing oil phase was dispersed into water by different nanoemulsification devices: shear mixer, sonicator and elongational-flow reactor and micromixer. Last two devices showed the capacity to produce monomodal nanoparticles of targeted size range at different continuous to dispersed phase volume ratios. On a second part, nanoparticles produced with the micromixer were employed as nanocarriers for rifampicin, a hydrophobic antibiotic. These drug-loaded nanoparticles were produced at different drug concentrations to study the effect of drug load on particle’s properties. Different techniques such as DLS, TEM, UV spectroscopy were employed to thoroughly characterize the nanoparticles’ diameter, size dispersity and morphology, drug encapsulation efficiency and in vitro drug release profile. Nanoparticles produced with the micromixer, following a new phase pre-saturation approach, had a highly monomodal diameter as low as 63 nm.

Professor Khashayar Saleh is a chemical engineer from Sharif (Aryamehr) university of technology (Tehran, Iran, 1992). He prepared a Ph.D. thesis on the coating of fine powders in fluidized beds in the Chemical Engineering Laboratory of Toulouse and obtained his Ph.D. degree in 1998 from the Institute National Polytechnique de Toulouse (France). From 2013 to 2019 Professor Khashayar Saleh has been the head of the chemical Engineering department of the Compiègne university of technology (UTC) which is a member of Sorbonne Universities. He is currently the coordinator of the research group on “Divided media and Interfaces, IMiD) of TIMR laboratory UTC. His work is focused on powder technology including powder handling and processing operations (storage, transport, fluidization, electrification, granulation, coating and encapsulating, etc.) and powder characterisation methods. Professor Saleh is the author of more than 80 articles in peer-reviewed scientific journals of the field and has delivered about 20 invited or plenary lectures at different national or international congresses in his field. Professor Saleh has been responsible for many scientific projects in collaboration with academic partners or industrial groups.

The role of chemical engineering in automotive industry: the race towards the zero-emission car
Abstract
The global fleet of light vehicles is estimated to double by 2050 to exceed 2 billion, driven by global population growth coupled with worldwide industrialization. As the current fleet is entirely made up of vehicles with internal combustion engines, the transport sector is a significant contributor to greenhouse gas emissions such as CO2 and NOx (i.e. 15% of CO2 emissions in Europe and 11% globally). To continue to ensure access to mobility while stabilizing or even reducing polluting gas emissions, the automotive industry must call on a permanent evolution of the technologies used, very often requiring breakthrough innovations. In this context, significant research work is underway to equip the cars with new technologies to reduce their harmful atmospheric emissions and meet the challenge of the global energy transition and global warming. These technological solutions are essentially based on two actions, one upstream of the combustion cycle consisting in replacing conventional energy sources (gasoline, diesel, etc.) with other cleaner vectors and the other, downstream, to neutralize harmful emissions. One thing in common, however, is that both uses the classical methodologies of “process engineering” and in particular those of “chemical reaction engineering”. This presentation focuses on the central role of this discipline in the development of intelligent on-board systems to meet the energy and environmental challenges relating to the automotive sector.

Christophe is a Distinguished Professor in chemical engineering. He graduated in 1992 from the Engineering School of Chemical Engineering (ENSIC) in Nancy (France). He received his Ph.D. in 1996 from the University Paul Sabatier in Toulouse (France). Then, he spent 18 months as a postdoctoral researcher at Rice University (Houston, TX). Since 1998, he has been a faculty member of the University of Strasbourg (France) teaching chemical engineering at the European Engineering School of Chemistry, Polymers and Materials Science (ECPM). In 2010 he was appointed Full Professor and joined in 2015 the Charles Sadron Institute (ICS, UPR 22 CNRS) becoming one of its deputy directors. His researches concern the development of intensified polymer processes based on microreaction technology/microfluidic devices for the continuous-flow production of controlled-features (co)polymers in solution or functional polymer micro- and nanoparticles. Microfluidic routes to the production of controlled-feature polymeric microcarriers for drug delivery
Abstract
Microencapsulation is used for the protection of drug, controlled release, reduced administration frequency, patient comfort and compliance. In comparison with conventional techniques for encapsulation, microfluidics offers a new route to precisely control over microcarriers’ size, shape, morphology, composition and thus release properties. Continuous-flow off-the-shelves capillaries-based microfluidic droplet generators, assembled within minutes, were used to produce size-controlled and drug-loaded plain, core-shell, Janus and Trojan polymeric microcarriers. A single capillary-based device was employed to obtained either poly(ethyl acrylate) plain microparticles or poly(acrylamide) Trojan microparticles embedding with drug-loaded poly(ethyl acrylate) nanoparticles previously obtained from the nanoemulsification of the monomer phase with an elongation-flow micromixer. On the opposite, a two capillaries-based device was employed to prepare poly(acrylamide)/poly(methyl acrylate) core-shell and Janus microparticles encapsulating two incompatible drug in two spate domain. This lecture proposes to study the production and the release properties of these microcarriers as well as the subsequent new release strategies (e.g. sequential, synergetic, nanoparticle delivery to GIT etc.) arising from these uncommon morphologies.

Dr Mathieu Schuster is senior researcher at the National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS), and works at the Earth and Environment Institute of Strasbourg. He received his Ph.D. in Sedimentary Geology from the University of Strasbourg in 2002. He pursued his research on the past environments of the Sahara Desert and of the East African Rift as a post-doc reseacher at universities of Cologne (Germany) and Brest (France), before he joined the French geological survey (BRGM). He then was recruited as a junior researcher (CNRS), and worked first at the the Institute of Human Paleontology of the University of Poitiers. After that he moved to Strasbourg where he served as vice-director of the Institute of geophysics. His research concerns past and present continental sedimentary environments, with a focus on clastic littoral processes, deposits and landforms associated to large lakes. He was awarded the Bronze medal of CNRS (2008), and the scientific prize of Cercle Gutenberg and Fondation Université de Strasbourg (2011). He was an Erskine Visiting Fellow at the University of Canterbury (Christchurch, New Zealand; 2016). Together with his colleague Dr Mike Heap he co-coordinates the Geosciences research for UFAZ.

The future of lakes: from reconstructing ancient lakes in the geological record to forecasting the evolution of large inland waterbodies of the world
Abstract
Although there is a great diversity of lakes by their physical, geological, chemical and biological characteristics, lakes can be very simply defined as inland bodies of standing water occupying a depression in the Earth’s crust. Lakes and lacustrine sedimentary basins are of major interest for both academic research (archives of past continental environments and climates) and economic purposes (energy and mineral resources). As a consequence, the geological study of ancient lakes has developed over the past decades, and considerable knowledge has been acquired about evolution of lakes in the past. This talk will examine how we –geoscientists– can transfer our extensive knowledge about the evolution of lakes over the geological times, in order to realistically imagine and anticipate the near-future of lakes. In the context, of the ongoing climate change and the growing demand on natural resources the near-future of lakes may be rather uncertain, and this uncertainty must be addressed with a scientific approach. For this reason, our research initiative “Lake4D” explores the future of lakes based on our knowledge of both ancient and modern lakes. It currently concerns a massive effort in developing numerical simulations of the functioning of lakes with the software Delft3D developed by Deltares. This will be illustrated by first results obtained on Lake Turkana (East African Rift System) by a post-doc researcher (IdEx, University of Strasbourg).

Supramolecular Nanoensembles: Preparations and Application
Abstract
Supramolecular compounds, including various low-molecular-mass structures and large molecular aggregates that are assembled by reversible noncovalent interactions, have attracted more and more attention due to their fascinating and unconventional chemical and physical properties. Therefore, these dynamic supramolecular complexes, especially with external responsiveness, represent the most outstanding candidates for the future development of functional and smart materials, and even mimic the assembling process of natural systems. Particles that are nanometer-sized have very many similarities to the concept of the forming of supramolecular compounds. The main principle of the formation of supramolecular ensembles and nanoparticles is the principle of self-assembly and intermolecular recognition. The synthesis of compounds, having biological activity, and modification of already exist drugs for application in targeting drug delivery are among the key solutions of such problems as the resistance of microorganisms, the toxicity and adverse side effects of usual antibacterial agents. Our research’s results show that the combining of supramolecular and nanotechnological approaches can make a great impact on creation of new materials with tunable properties applicable in various fields.

Shalala Huseynova graduated from Geological Faculty of Baku State University as an engineer-geologist, also from Faculty of Philology of Azerbaijan University of Languages as an English teacher. She did her post graduate study at Geology and Geophysics Institute of ANAS. In 2017, she was awarded a scientific degree of PhD in Earth Sciences for the PhD dissertation “Evaluation of hydrocarbon potential of Baku archipelago on the basis of basin modeling technology”. From 2019 to present she has been involved in postdoctoral study at Oil and Gas Institute of ANAS. She worked as a scientific secretary of Oil and Gas Institute of ANAS; scientific researcher at Basin Modeling and Geotechnologies Department at the Institute of Geology and Geophysics of ANAS; consulting geologist at Khon Shipping Company Ltd; and as methodologist at Public Organizing Department of Republican Center for Environmental Education and Experiment, . Her pedagogical experience includes Azerbaijan State Oil and Industry University, Geological Survey Faculty, Petroleum Geology Department; Baku Higher Oil School, Petroleum Engineering Department and Baku State University, Geological Faculty, Department of General and Historical Geology. Modelling of petroleum systems within the South Caspian Basin
Abstract
The objective of the study was an evaluation of the hydrocarbon potential of the sedimentary cover and prognosis of oil-and gas content within the western flank of the South Caspian Basin (SCB) based on geochemical investigations and modeling of petroleum systems of the basin. Available geological, geophysical, thermobaric, geochemical database was analyzed and integrated in this study. Several representative seismic-geological cross-sections within the western flank of SCB was chosen as a base for modelling. Modeling of hydrocarbon systems of SCB included simulation of burial history, structure forming, thermobaric conditions, hydrocarbon generation history, migration and accumulation. Geochemical study and modeling of the Mesozoic-Cenozoic complex of the western flank of SCB gave an opportunity to assess their HC generation potential and to identify five individual intervals that can be considered as source rocks and contributed to the formation of the oil and gas fields within the basin.

Clara Jodry is an associate professor in geophysics at UFAZ university, also Program Manager for M.Sc in Geosciences. She got her master’s degree from Sorbonne University and a PhD from Nantes University in France in applied geophysics. Her research, based on geophysical methods, aims to contribute to the sustainable management of water resources. She focuses on the Vadose Zone (VZ), i.e., from the surface to the water table. This environment, part of the critical zone, is multiphase, complex, and dynamic, which requires the consideration of multiple parameters. Her aim is to characterize heterogeneous weathering profiles and fracture networks and define their influences on the water flow in the VZ. For this, she combines field, laboratory, and numerical studies to provide high-resolution images of the subsurface and monitor the spatio-temporal evolution of subsurface properties. In each of her projects, she applies a cross-disciplinary approach, in various geological and geographical contexts, for a better understanding and representation of subsurface physical phenomena. This has led her to work in synergy with many collaborators and to integrate her work into a broader context. In this sense, she not only learned to process geophysical data, but also to make them accessible to non-geophysicists.

Use of Electrical Resistivity Tomography to characterize fluid pathways on the Saribokha mud volcano, Azerbaijan

Authors: Ruslan Malikov, Nigar Karimova, Clara Jodry Abstract: Underground water is one of the key resources that undergo increasing stress due to human activities, pollution, and climate change. Imaging water circulations and dynamics in the ground help ensure sustainable water management. Hydrogeophysics brings valuable information on the underground structure (fissures, cracks and fractures, etc.), define the hydrodynamic parameters (porosity, permeability, flow rate, etc.), identify and monitor water transfers. However, when considering the near non-saturated subsurface, hydrogeological mechanism are highly dynamic and complex. One of the challenges that geophysicist encounter is how to better represent complex geometries. In this work, we introduce an Electrical Resistivity Tomography survey applied to investigate and image mud-fluid pathways on Saribokha mud volcano. The 2D imaging shows very low resistive conduits (less than 2 Ohm.m), that we interpret as mudflow pipes, within a higher resistive medium (between 2 and 5 Ohm.m) of mud breccia. These results were validated by observed surface features (gryphons, salsa lakes, and vents) providing an initial understanding of the mud volcano system and fluid circulations. This study demonstrates that geophysics can provide reasonable methods for water transfer characterization between the surface and subsurface structures even in a complex environment.

Dr Bozetti has a PhD from the Department of Geology and Petroleum Geology of the University of Aberdeen, where he worked on an outcrop-based project entitled “Predicting Reservoir Architecture in Channelised Submarine Systems”, led by the renowned Sedimentologist Professor Ben Kneller. He then pursued a Postdoc in the South University of Science and Technology, Shenzhen, China, where he worked with Professor Jingping Xu on a PetroChina funded project on “Description and Geological Interpretation of the Deep-water Sedimentary Systems in Continental Basins”, where he defined new architectural elements in deep-lacustrine systems. Currently, Dr Bozetti continues his collaboration on lacustrine systems, in collaboration with PetroChina; leads the “Quantifying Reservoir Architecture in Deep-water Systems” project, sponsored by the Initiative d’excellence (IdEx) of the University of Strasbourg; and collaborates in a project aiming the characterisation of the Lower Triassic Buntsandstein Formation along the French-German border.

New insights into deep-lacustrine architectural elements; examples from the Upper Triassic Yanchang Formation, Ordos Basin.
Abstract
In the Upper Triassic Yanchang Formation Ordos Basin, China, large sandstone deposits, previously described as massive sandstones and interpreted as sandy debrites, have been re-interpreted as amalgamated sandstones, deposited by high-energy high-density turbidity currents, associated to lacustrine slope channels. Two outcrops dominated by medium- to thin-bedded graded sandstone and mudstones, interbedded with thick amalgamated sandstones, forming intervals ranging from 6 to 20 m thick, and laterally ranging from 600 to 1200 m, preserving evidence of sediment bypass have been interpreted as lacustrine slope channels. These deposits decrease in thickness and degree of amalgamation laterally until complete pinch-out. Deposits composed dominantly by interbedded thin-bedded graded sandstone and mudstone, with common occurrence of ripple cross-lamination, interbedded with sporadic medium-bedded sandstones have been interpreted as levee deposits. Interbedded thin- to medium-bedded graded sandstones to mudstones, neither associated to a confining surface nor adjacent to a slope channel, have been interpreted as terminal splays. This newly proposed model changes drastically the reservoir targets of the basin, adding a predictive character to the exploration and production work.

Application of fuzzy logic in real life problem
Abstract
Dynamic programming (DP) is a significant optimization procedure using multistage decision process. DP as an optimization tool is adapted to operations in which decision-making can be divided into separate stages. In this study we are analyzing the fuzzy dynamic programming based multi stage transportation problem. The purpose of this paper is to evolve a method relating to fuzzy dynamic programming for solving the fuzzy least cost route problem. In this work the costs of transportation are represented as a generalized trapezoidal fuzzy number. Backward recursive equation characterized by fuzziness is used to determine the optimal solution of the given problem. Here we present an implementation of algorithmic tool for solving this problem. The analyzed approach is explained by a numerical example. The special characteristic of the used method is the uncertainty in the least cost route models and it is effectively eliminated by fuzzy dynamic programming. The proposed algorithm can be applied to real-life problems in transportation and other fields. Reactivity of fullerenes and carbon nanotubes in chain reactions of hydrocarbons and polymers oxidation
Abstract
Тhe discovery in the ХХ century of new allotropic forms of carbon, such as fullerenes, carbon nanotubes and graphene, radically changed the life of mankind. The incredible properties of these structures have made it possible to find their application in the fields of electronics, medicine and many others. The discovery of fullerenes and the further research in the field of nanocarbon compounds lead to results that are of tremendous importance for science and practice. This work is in the mainstream of such topical research and devoted to the disclosure of the chemical potential of fullerenes and multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) in the reactions of aerobic and peroxide liquid-phase oxidation of hydrocarbons and thermal oxidative destruction of polymers. The main purpose of the work is introduce additives of carbon nanocompounds (CNS), fullerenes C60 and C70, their brominated and amine derivatives, MCNTs and their amine derivatives, nanodioxides-titanium on nanocarbon carriers into the hydrocarbon oxidation zone and consider the phenomenon of their action on model reactions, carry out its quantitative analysis and describe the observed formal kinetic patterns; based on the results of model experiments, carry out the reactions of aerobic and peroxide oxidation of the selected hydrocarbons and issue appropriate recommendations for the optimal conduct of these processes on a semi- and industrial scale.

Dr. Gulam Babayev is the graduate of Department of Mineral Resources. He continued postgraduate courses at the Institute of Geology (currently, Geology and Geophysics Institute, GGI) at Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS). In 2001, he was admitted at the International Institute of Seismology and Earthquake Engineers (IISEE) at Tsukuba, Tokyo (Japan) studying seismology and seismic hazard assessment technique. In 2002, he continued researches in seismology, participating in a number of workshops, trainings, conferences, scientific assemblies worldwide, such as in GFZ courses (Germany), at The University of Genève under SDC (Swiss Development Cooperation) scholarship (Switzerland), at Geophysical University of Karlsruhe under DAAD scholarship (Germany), at Milano Bicocca University under the fellowship of Cariplo Foundation (Italy) on seismology and geohazards. Site-specific deterministic hazard assessment at respective locations of the north-eastern region of Azerbaijan provides the estimation of the amplification factor on local soil conditions. Topics of interest include moment magnitude, seismic energy, b-value, simulated earthquake scenario-based Peak Ground Acceleration (PGA), site effects, rock site characterization and intensity. This study is a large scale seismicity analysis for seismic source zone clarification and estimation of maximum earthquake magnitude. It may have a significant impact on engineering design, especially for critical facilities in the studied area.

Ethanol conversion over binary cobalt oxide catalysts
Abstract
The reaction of steam reforming of ethanol to hydrogen on cobalt-containing catalysts with various additives has been studied. It was found that the synthesized oxide catalysts are active in the reaction of steam reforming of ethanol to hydrogen. It has been found that catalysts in which one of the oxides predominates have high activity and selectivity in the reaction of steam reforming of ethanol. Thermographic and thermogravimetric studies have shown that all physicochemical transformations, as well as changes in the composition and mass of the initial sample during calcination, end up to 400°C. X-ray phase analysis of synthesized binary catalytic systems was carried out. It was found that the phase composition of the catalysts consists only of the initial oxides. The synthesized catalysts were studied in the isomerization reaction of 1-butene to 2-butene. It was found that in the Fe-Co-O catalysts, the samples with equimolar ratio of primary elements are active in the isomerization reaction, while in the catalytic systems Zn-Co-O and Mg-Co the samples with predominates one of the elements in the composition have high activity in the isomerization reaction of butene.

She established earthquake limnology in Turkey. She has led research on palynology of the Dead Sea laminites, on sea level changes in the Caspian Sea (development of dinoflagellate cyst proxy), on MIS5 in the Sea of Marmara and the Pliocene Series of Azerbaijan. She always works in a multidisciplinary way, mostly with geologists and archaeologists on past environments and climates, origin of sediment, interaction between nature and humans and quality of age model. Although the sediment she analyses is mostly lacustrine, she also has experience in marine and coastal environments, guano and coprolites. The Caspian Sea through time, a sea that remains mysterious
Abstract
Nowadays the Caspian Sea receives most of its water from the Volga River. However during the Late Pleistocene and Early Holocene, the Amu-Daria, via the Uzboi, flowed into the south basin of the CS. A sill separating the 2 basins shows signs of overspill. The history of water-level changes remains poorly known even for the last centuries. Nevertheless, the amplitude was of > 150 m in the Quaternary, several 10s of m in the Holocene and several m in the last century. Because of its long history of isolation after the end of the Paratethys, this ancient lake has many endemic species. The harsh environment of its brackish waters and the repeated salinity changes over the millennia however do not allow for a high biodiversity. Reconstruction of past salinities, hence past sea levels, is done from dinocyst assemblages whilst past climate is reconstructed using pollen amongst other proxies. A series of cores taken in the south and central basins covers from the Lateglacial to the present. Various topics and unanswered questions will be presented such as Last Glacial Maximum (high or low water level), transition Pleistocene-Holocene (coincident or not with end of the Khvalynian highstand and the end of the Eurasian icesheet), the 4 cal. ka BP transition (a late drop in sea level, role of W Himalayas and monsoon, change of river inflow and delayed expansion of temperate trees) and the Little Ice Age (high sea level stand). New avenues based on novel proxies will be introduced.

Synthesis of nanostructures on the basis of diazacrown ether (mc) and magnetite nanoparticles loaded by cephalosporin antibiotics
Abstract
Hydroxyl containing azacrown macrocycle (MC) that is able to mimic the properties of natural siderophores. On the basis of synthesized MC were prepared the supramolecular ensembles with magnetite nanoparticles, loaded by cephalosporin antibiotics. The synthesized MC was investigated by NMR, mass-, FTIR spectroscopy methods. The morphology of prepared nano-ensembles was analyzed by scanning electron microscopy SEM, FTIR, X-ray diffraction XRD analysis methods. The quantitative analysis of nanostructures was determined by atom absorbance spectroscopy (AAS) as well as on the basis of Lambert-Beer law by UV spectroscopy method. Prepared nanostructures were tested on gramnegative Escherichia Coli and gram-positive Staphylococcus aureus, having multi drug resistance properties. Has been found that the nanostructures significantly increase the antimicrobial effect of cephalsporins and decrease their MIC. Successfully synthesis of hydroxyl containing diazacrown ether (MC) that is able to mimic the properties of natural siderophores. The binding of MC to Fe3O4@CTAX and Fe3O4@CTRIX NPs overcomes the destroying of β-lactam ring of cephalosporins, due to their synergistic effect.

Prof. Samer El Zant has received an engineering degree in Communications and Electronics from Beirut University in 2014, a M.S degree in Networks and systems engineering from Paris Saclay University in 2015 and a PhD. in Networks Analysis and Computer Science in 2018 from the National Polytechnic Institute of Toulouse. Between 2015 and 2018, he was a member of IRIT and LPT laboratories, participating in the GOMOBILE, APPLIGOOGLE and MACACO projects while working towards his PhD. In September 2016, he joined the ENSEEIHT, France, as a lecturer. He joined INP then BAU for the academic years 2018/2019 and 2019/2020 as an assistant professor. Abstract
Users in social networks are increasingly active and generate a large amount of new data. One of the distinctive features of online social networks is the dissemination of information through social ties. Indeed, the links between users determine the flow of information and therefore indicate the influence of a user on others. With more than 330 million monthly active accounts worldwide, Twitter become one of the most popular and most observed Social Media platform. In this research, we have analyzed the dissemination of information on a large scale directed networks through the data we have collected from two study cases on Twitter. Based on hashtags, we have built two dynamic directed networks showing users as vertices and retweets as edges. The two study cases are: French presidential election and Middle east conflict. Analyzing the data collected helped us to measure the degree of influences, to find out the clusters and to visualize how the information spread on Twitter. In our work, we will present a new strategy that analyses the network of retweets using Google Matrix and reduced Google Matrix. For instance, our analysis groups together users that belong to the same cluster and shows meaningful ties between users of different parts. Our approach allows to obtain a balanced view of various opinions of twitter users. We argue that this approach gives meaningful information and that it could be a part of extensive network analysis on human interactions.

Dr. Elshan Abdullayev is a geoscience programme coordinator at French-Azerbaijani University (UFAZ) and an adjunct researcher at Khazar University. He completed his PhD at Leipzig University (Germany) in 2015. After his PhD, Elshan started to work as a researcher at the Institute of Geography, Azerbaijan National Academy of Science. Elshan has done his post-doc at Mugla Sitki Kochman University (Turkey) between 2016-2017. He was a DAAD fellow at the University of Greifswald (Germany) in 2018, 2021 and an Institute of Advanced Study Fellow at Durham University (UK) in 2019. The role of clay minerals in the preservation of fossils in sedimentary rocks

Elshan Abdullayev, Andre Baldermann, Shafag Bayramova, Laurence Warr Clay minerals belong to the phyllosilicates group and are commonly less than 2 µm in size. The major clay minerals in surface-near sediments and sedimentary rocks are smectite, illite, chlorite and kaolinite 1,2. These clay minerals can play a major role in the preservation of organic matter associated with fossils in the rock record 3. The main goal of the study is to investigate the specific role of illite in the preservation of fossils in shale. Here, we studied (SEM-EDS, XRD) fish remnants from the Islam Dağ section, eastern Azerbaijan (Eastern Paratethys Basin), collected from a horizon rich in illite (31 %) and poor in smectite (<3 %). Besides these clay minerals, the horizon consists of quartz, albite and microcline, in addition to minor pyrite and jarosite, which is also confirmed by our SEM-EDS study of the sample. We assume that the charged edge sites of illite can play a significant role in the preservation of organic tissue. The charge of the edge surfaces of clay minerals are controlled mainly by the pH of the percolating waters 4. Ulviyya Abdulkarimova completed her Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics & Statistics with specialization in Statistics and minor in Economics from McMaster University of Canada in 2011. She continued her studies at the same university and obtained Master’s degree in Statistics in 2013. Her research interests focused on multivariate and survival data analysis, frailty models, statistical analysis of clinical trials, etc. Over the course of her career, she has gained experience as a statistical analyst from pharmaceutical and marketing research companies. Ulviyya started her teaching experience at McMaster University as a teaching assistant in 2011. In 2015, she joined Azerbaijan State Oil and Industry University as a Mathematics instructor. She has been working at UFAZ since 2016 as a Mathematics instructor and is the local coordinator of the Mathematics team. Ulviyya recently completed her PhD from the University of Strasbourg. Her current research interest is solving real-world optimization problems using evolutionary algorithms.

PARSEC: PARallel System for Evolutionary Computing
Abstract
A PARSEC machine is made of several computers (combined power of 800 TFlops) that are interconnected with a low-speed network (a cheap Ethernet network). The specificity of PARSEC machine is that they are loosely coupled. In contrast, standard supercomputers are made of tightly coupled machines interconnected with very expensive high-speed fiber-optic networks that represent a big fraction of the cost of a supercomputer. PARSEC machine can use heterogeneous machines, running at a different speed, and even heterogeneous operating systems. In order to overcome the heterogeneity of the machines, a PARSEC machine must run collaborative software that can exchange knowledge, not data. EASEA (EAsy Specification of Evolutionary Algorithms) is a software platform dedicated to evolutionary algorithms (EA) that since 2008, automatically parallelizes EAs on parallel architectures. EAs are generic solvers that can tackle all kinds of difficult problems, be they continuous, discrete or combinatorial. They are embarrassingly parallel, meaning that they parallelize perfectly on SIMD GPGPU cards, which more or less impose that all cores execute the same instruction at the same nanosecond, over tens of thousands of threads. This requires absolute time that is achievable inside a single GPGPU chip, but unachievable in between CPUs. The EASEA platform implements not only all different kinds of genetic algorithms, evolution strategies, but also genetic programming and other stochastic algorithms.

Narmina Guliyeva got her bachelor’s degree at Applied Chemistry (2004-2008) at Baku State University (BSU), master’s degree at Organic Chemistry (2019-2011) at BSU. She pursued her PhD in Organic Chemistry (2011-2016) at BSU, and finally, became Doctor Of Science (2020-2024) on Macromolecular chemistry at Azerbaijan State Oil and Industry University. She is working as an assistant and a teacher at Azerbaijan State Oil and İndustry University. She is also a teacher at Baku State University, at department of Organic Chemistry. She has 77 scientific work, including 37 articles (8 abroad, 29 local) and 40 theses (15 abroad, 25 local) She worked at the project of “Obtaining of new polymer nanocomposites with photoluminescent properties based on macrocycle complex with europium”. The project was about the synthesis of a complex of a macrocyclic compound with europium that was carried out, the patterns of change in luminescent properties from the electrophysical characteristics, the dispersion and volume content of the filler, the role of the interphase boundary layer in the formation of PL in composites were determined – Place: Russia, Dubna (06.12.2016 – 31.03.2017)

Abstract
The chemistry of heterocyclic macrocycles is one of the most fascinating and important fields in modern organic and stereochemical chemistry. It is known that at present more than 70% of widely used drugs, such as antibiotics of natural and synthetic origin, are heterocyclic organic compounds. The presence of a heteroatom introduces originality into the chemical properties and determines the ways of methods of synthesis. And also their reactions with aliphatic, heterocyclic amines and polynucleophilic reagents have not been properly studied. The practical significance of this work is the development of methods for obtaining previously unknown annealed N, N and N, S heterocyclic derivatives of diethoxycarbonyl-substituted cyclohexanols. The aim of this work is to study the regeoselectivity of the reaction and to study the sterostructure of the obtained substances.

Dr. Elkhan Isgandarov got his bachelor’s degree at the Azerbaijan Institute of Oil and Chemistry named after M. Azizbekov at the Geological Exploration Faculty at the Department of Geophysical Methods of Exploration. In 1978, after graduation he worked as an engineer at the All-Union Scientific Research Institute of Geophysics. In 1980, he entered the postgraduate course at the Department of Geophysical Methods of Exploration of the Azerbaijan Institute of Oil and Chemistry named after A. M. Azizbekova. Since 1981, at the same department, he worked as a senior engineer, and then as an assistant. In 1988, he received PhD at geological and mineralogical sciences. Currently, he is working as an assistant professor at the Azerbaijan State University of Oil and Industry. His research areas are processing and interpretation of gravimetric data, complex interpretation of gravimetric data, direct prospecting for oil and gas based on gravimetric data, development of algorithms and programs for transformation and interpretation of gravimetric and magneto metric data. He has more than forty published works.

TRANSFORMATION OF GRAVIMAGNETIC ANOMALIES
Abstract
The task of transforming gravity and magnetic anomalies consists in dividing the observed field into its components, each of which is associated with different geological bodies at different depths. The solution this problem is especially complicated in complex areas with great depths of geological structures. Reliable separation of anomalies is possible only through effective methods of transforming gravimagnetic fields using computers and choosing the optimal transformation parameters. This report is devoted to this issue, which analyzes the possibilities of transformation methods and also are given some results of scientific research on the development of transformation methods and algorithms that increase the resolution of gravity.

Latafat Abbas Gardashova began her studies in Applied Mathematics Faculty of Baku State University. Dr. Gardashova received her Ph.D (in the qualification of “Computer-Aided Control Systems” ) and Doctorate degrees (in the qualification of “System analysis, management and information processing”) from the Institute of Control Problems in 1999 and 2014, respectively. Her major fields of studies are Database Theory, Control Theory, Fuzzy Logic And Mathematics, Soft Computing and Decision Theory, Artificial and Computational Intelligence. She is a Vice-Rector for Scientific Affairs of the Azerbaijan State Oil and Industry University and Professor of the Computer Engineering Department. Her current research is focused on Approximate Reasoning, Zadeh Z-numbers theory. She has over 200 scientific publications including 8 books, 7 edited books and over 185 research papers. She is an Editor of International Journal of Innovative Research in Computer Science & Technology. Artificial intelligence and information processing in decision making problems
Abstract
Fuzzy logic is a kernel of artificial intelligence, it would be considered a branch of AI. It is performing a sub problem of decision making, as a member of the AI tools. The combination of fuzzy logic tools and multi criteria decision making has a great relevance in the literature. Compared with the classical fuzzy number, Z-number has more ability to describe the knowledge of human. It can describe both restraint and reliability. There exist four generalizations of decision-relevant information in the theory of decisions. In the first generalization crisp numbers are used. The second generalization involves the use of intervals. The existing decision theories are mainly based on these generalizations: Expected Utility and Prospect Theory utilize numeric information and multiple priors-based theories like Maxmin Expected Utility utilize interval-valued information. The third generalization is based on fuzzy sets. There exist a spectrum of works in this realm devoted to linguistic preferences, fuzzy utility function, fuzzy mutlicriteria decision making and others. Unfortunately, all the decision approaches based on these three generalizations don’t deal with real reliability. L. Zadeh suggested a concept of a Z-number to describe a reliability of given information. In this study, the Z-number is applied to solve multi-criteria decision making. His bachelor thesis was “Synthesis of systems, performing control of dynamic objects with chaotic behavior”. He pursued his master’s degree at Azerbaijan State Oil and Industry University during 2014-2016. His research focus was “Robust adaptive control of an object with the uncertainty in dynamics”. Value of Fuzzy Logic for Data Mining and Machine Learning: A Case Study
Abstract
A case study on the role of fuzzy logic (FL) in data mining and machine learning is carried out. It is outlined that, in order to draw more attention of data-mining and machine-learning communities to FL, studies on FL could be more focused not on the activities that fuzzy methods can perform better but rather on the activities that fuzzy methods can perform and the non-fuzzy ones can’t. Such approach takes us away from discussing quantitative differences between fuzzy and non-fuzzy methods to discussing qualitative differences, which are possibly more favorable objects of scientific curiosity. Following the outlined suggestion, a novel speed-up technique is proposed to support association rule mining (ARM). The proposed technique is a clustering-based one and provides fusion of clustering and ARM. The catchy feature of this technique is that it works well if applied in fuzzy ARM and doesn’t work well if applied in non-fuzzy ARM. The proposed technique is put through experimental verification involving several real-world datasets, and the results substantiate its effectiveness.

Correlation of horizons and mapping of faults of Naftalan field based on seismic attribute analysis
Abstract
The paper deals with picking of target seismic horizons in the quite complicated wave pattern observed, as well as, with outlining and tracing of network of disjunctive dislocations and developing a basis for drawing of structural maps for Naftalan field. Through selection of areas featured by variation of wavefield characteristics we have calculated several attributes in this interval and analyzed the acquired results gaining more accurate seismic data and confident tracing of seismic horizons. Some poorly informative attributes or attributes providing similar results have not been applied in further studies in order to avoid repetition. The aim of our study consists in defining of attributes which are more effective for outlining of disjunctive dislocations of various amplitude and can be applied to study the geological structure of Naftalan oil field in more detail. Processing results of all 3D data have been given in form of cubes of seismic attributes.
